Carissa Cartalemi, CHHC, LGSW, MBA is a certified Holistic Health & Nutrition Counselor from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners and a licensed clinical health therapist from the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners (LGSW). Her training includes an eclectic mix of different dietary theories—from old to new; east to west; ancient traditions of macrobiotics, Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine to the modern blood type and Paleo diets—and counseling therapies including Mindfulness; Motivational Interviewing; and Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. Her reason for getting out of bed in the morning-- her life's passions-- is helping others heal from imbalance and disease.
Carissa’s interest in holistic medicine and nutritional healing was fostered by her mother, also an Institute of Integrative Nutrition graduate, who has been an enthusiast of every popular dietary theory since the 70's. As a result Carissa grew up with an appreciation for food's healing power and a love of mind-body therapies. Carissa's healing practice was sparked by her graduate work counseling chronically and critically ill patients in an acute-care setting. During this time Carissa worked with hundreds of patients suffering from decades of poor nutrition, high stress, and chronic imbalance. It is this experience that drives Carissa's work with clients today.
It is Carissa's unique blend of traditional therapeutic in conjunction with alternative wellness counseling modalities that makes the difference for her clients.
Carissa is dedicated to working with her clients to eliminate physical, emotional, and mental dis-ease before it becomes chronic, debilitating disease. She believes there is no 1-size fits all diet or therapeutic approach, and she avoids rules, willpower, and guilt. In a highly supportive and professional way, Carissa empowers clients to make real lifestyle changes and improve their health.
